Howard is one of the South’s most successful young strategists. At 23, he was tapped for leadership by the late Maynard Jackson, the first African-American mayor of a major southern city. Since then, he has scored a string of legislative and electoral victories while promoting policies for some of the South’s leading lawmakers.Some of those include Mayor Shirley Franklin, the first woman elected to lead a major southern city; Percy Bland, the first African-American elected mayor of Meridian, Miss.; Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, the first woman to lead either party in the Georgia General Assembly; and state Senator Jason Carter, the Georgia Democrats’ 2014 nominee for governor.Howard currently works as a contract lobbyist representing an impressive list of blue chip companies, including Regions Bank, NCR, Sprint, Cisco Systems, Amazon, First Transit, International Game Technology, the Georgia Association of Healthcare Plans and Fulton County Government. He has also advised global organizations like Save Darfur and CDC Foundation, and won a historic 2009 race electing a new government in the Cayman Islands.In 2010, Howard made history again, when he was elected the first male president of the Georgia League of Women Voters, the first chairman of the state democratic party’s African-American Caucus. He is a regular commentator on radio and television, and a consistent contributor online and in print. He earned degrees in English literature and sociology from Morehouse College.
